Support in Services Improvement

Among others, one of the major challenges facing the health system in Ethiopia is the shortage of medical equipment. Although the Ethiopian government has made significant efforts to expand health services nationwide, health infrastructure in eastern Ethiopia, particularly in Oromia, remains underdeveloped. In response, Hundee Development International (HDI) envisions supporting the improvement of health infrastructure through the provision of essential medical equipment, helping to reduce the burden on local communities. In addition, sanitation is a critical component of preventive healthcare. Access to clean and reliable water is fundamental to improving sanitation outcomes. HDI works to enhance access to water by supporting the development of water sources through cost-sharing initiatives with local communities.

Support for Education Quality Improvement

In a country like Ethiopia, where rapid population growth coincides with large-scale development initiatives, expanding access to education and improving its quality are of paramount importance. HDI seeks to contribute by providing educational materials and books to schools. Where possible, HDI also supports improvements in school infrastructure, including the construction of libraries to serve schools and surrounding communities. Furthermore, HDI aims to create boarding opportunities in major towns for outstanding students from remote rural areas, enabling them to pursue further education and reach their full potential.
  • Farm Technologies

Introduction of Simple Farm Technologies

Agriculture in Ethiopia is predominantly subsistence-based. Small landholdings and limited access to technology are among the key factors constraining the development of the farming sector. HDI is committed to identifying and promoting compatible, simple technologies that enhance agricultural productivity. These may include labor-saving tools, dairy technologies, improved farming practices, and water-related technologies. HDI also facilitates experience-sharing opportunities, both within Ethiopia and internationally, by creating platforms for farmers to exchange knowledge and best practices. This includes fostering communication forums with farmers from other countries to enable deeper technology transfer and learning. Over time, HDI aims to support farmers in transitioning toward value-added production, including assistance with product processing, packaging, and market readiness.

Youth Connection

Ethiopia has a large youth population, and as the government undertakes extensive development efforts, youth must be placed at the center of these initiatives. Youth-focused development policies are essential for sustainable progress. In this regard, Hundee Development International (HDI) is working to build a bridge between diaspora youth in the United States and youth in Oromia and across Ethiopia. The Youth Connection initiative creates platforms where young people can engage in dialogue on current issues affecting their lives and communities. HDI facilitates online youth membership registration and coordination to support this engagement. A key thematic area of the Youth Connection initiative is the organization of youth forums that encourage discussion on contemporary social, economic, and development issues. In addition, HDI plans to organize study and exposure tours to Ethiopia for diaspora youth, allowing them to observe national development projects such as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, as well as historic and cultural sites. These visits foster understanding of their country of origin and create opportunities for experience sharing and technology transfer. Similarly, HDI facilitates exchange visits for youth from Oromia and other parts of Ethiopia to the United States. These visits focus on dialogue with diaspora communities, experience sharing, skill development, and exploring scholarship opportunities for outstanding youth.
